ILLIT is strengthening its foothold in Japan, and this time the group's music is heading straight to the small screen. The five-member act has landed another major OST opportunity, with its upcoming Japanese single set to introduce viewers to one of the country's most anticipated streaming dramas.

According to agency Belift Lab on July 22, ILLIT's second Japanese single title track, "I Got Your Back," has been chosen as the opening theme song for the ABEMA original drama "The Rules of Vacation." The announcement adds another milestone to the group's fast-growing career in Japan, where their releases have continued to find a strong audience.

"I Got Your Back" is a rock-based track that captures the emotions shared between close friends. Fans have already had a first taste of the song after part of it appeared in the drama's teaser video, where its bright energy blends naturally with the series' youthful vacation setting. Sometimes a song simply hits differently when it finds the right story, and this pairing appears to do exactly that.

Premiering on July 27, "The Rules of Vacation" stars Kanna Hashimoto and Chae Jong-hyeop. The drama follows the lives of young people whose stories unfold at a vacation destination, promising a mix of fresh emotions and memorable moments. With ILLIT providing the opening theme, music will play a central role in shaping the atmosphere from the very first scene.

The placement also reflects ILLIT's growing reputation in the Japanese OST market. The group already enjoyed success with "Almond Chocolate," which served as the theme song for the film "I Don't Like You Just by Your Face." The track performed well on local music charts last year and showed that ILLIT's sound could connect beyond traditional album promotions.

That momentum has continued throughout 2026. While many rookie groups are still working to establish themselves overseas, ILLIT keeps adding new chapters to its Japanese activities through music, live performances, and soundtrack projects. The strategy is paying off, giving the group visibility across multiple corners of the entertainment industry.

The schedule ahead leaves little room to stay put. ILLIT will wrap up its Japan tour with performances at Toyota Arena Tokyo on July 23 and July 25 through 26 before shifting attention to new music. The digital edition of the group's new album arrives on July 26, followed by the physical release on July 29.

For ILLIT, another drama theme song is more than another credit on a release list. It is another sign that the group's music continues to find new audiences in Japan, extending its reach beyond streaming playlists and concert stages into stories that millions of viewers will experience each week.
