Kim Soo-hyun's Lawyer Says Police Decision Marks Major Step in Restoring His Reputation
Kim Soo-hyun's lawyer says police findings clearing the actor of key allegations are a major step toward restoring his reputation and public trust.
Kim Soo-hyun has reached another significant turning point in one of the most closely watched controversies in the Korean entertainment industry. After police decided not to forward multiple allegations against the actor, his legal representative says the ruling carries weight far beyond a routine legal decision.
On July 30, Attorney Ko Sang-rok, who represents Kim Soo-hyun, discussed the outcome on his YouTube channel, "Attorney Ko Sang-rok." He addressed the recent decision by investigative authorities to dismiss allegations involving violations of the Child Welfare Act and false accusation, describing the outcome as the natural result of a complaint that was based on claims without factual support.

"Yesterday, a decision was made to drop the charges and not forward the case regarding actor Kim Soo-hyun's alleged violation of the Child Welfare Act and false accusation," Ko said. "Since the complaint was filed based on facts that did not exist in the first place, I believe this is a natural outcome."
Ko explained that he had been waiting for the result because of what it means for Kim Soo-hyun's public image. According to the attorney, the investigation was carried out after he officially became the actor's legal representative, allowing him to personally attend questioning sessions and closely examine the evidence presented throughout the case.
He said that experience gave him direct knowledge of the complainants' claims, the evidence reviewed by investigators, and the materials Kim Soo-hyun submitted in response. From his perspective, the final decision reflects a detailed examination of the available facts rather than public speculation.
Among the allegations that surfaced earlier this year, Ko identified the so-called grooming accusation as the most damaging. He argued that the controversy severely affected Kim Soo-hyun's reputation, making the investigative findings particularly meaningful.
According to Ko, police reviewed the allegations covering the entire period referenced by the complainants, including the years when the late actress Kim Sae-ron was still a minor. After examining the available evidence, investigators concluded that the accusations could not be substantiated and closed the case with a decision of non-indictment due to insufficient evidence.
The attorney stated that objective evidence gathered during the investigation contradicted the allegations. He maintained that, once investigators set aside what he described as fabricated materials and unreliable claims, no credible evidence remained to support the accusations made against Kim Soo-hyun.
Ko also described the decision as an official determination that the grooming allegations raised by the bereaved family were groundless following a formal criminal investigation. He expressed satisfaction with the outcome and said it marked another important development after the earlier indictment and detention of Kim Se-ui, head of the Garo Sero Research Institute.
He added that Kim Soo-hyun has now been cleared of what he called the central allegation that weighed most heavily on the actor. Ko also expressed hope that longtime supporters would find comfort in the decision and that public opinion would gradually shift toward facts confirmed through official investigations rather than claims circulating online.
The latest development follows the Seongdong Police Station's announcement on July 29 that it would not forward the case involving alleged violations of the Child Welfare Act and false accusation filed by the bereaved family of the late actress Kim Sae-ron against Kim Soo-hyun.
The actor largely suspended his public activities after allegations emerged claiming he had dated Kim Sae-ron while she was a minor. The controversy dominated entertainment headlines for months and sparked widespread debate across social media.
Last month, another major legal development arrived when Kim Se-ui, who first publicized the allegations, was arrested and indicted on charges that include defamation by spreading false information under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection.
For Kim Soo-hyun, the legal process is far from just another court story. Public trust is difficult to rebuild once controversy takes hold. This latest decision does not erase months of intense scrutiny overnight, but it marks another official step in a case that has kept the actor's career on hold while investigators worked to separate verified facts from allegations.
